Harbor Transit Director

The Harbor Transit Multi-Modal Transportation System Board of Directors is seeking a Harbor Transit Executive Director to direct, evaluate, and coordinate all activities of the Transportation System, including the Grand Haven Area Municipal Airport.  This includes budgeting, strategic long range planning, overall management of the program and staff, and managerial leadership. Seasonal Community Police Officer

The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal Community Police Officer. This is a temporary summer position with hours ranging from 26 – 40 hours per week.

Specific duties of this temporary position will include local ordinance enforcement, foot and ATV patrol of Grand Haven City Beach, bicycle and foot patrol of downtown Grand Haven, traffic control during special events and other law enforcement duties as required.

This position requires applicants to be licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, or have the ability to be licensed by June 1, 2020. All applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation, physical agility test, and an interview board. Successful candidates will complete a water rescue technician course prior to beach duty.

Seasonal Employment Opportunities

The Department of Public Works and Community Development is seeking seasonal hires to work in various positions throughout the city during this upcoming summer. Typical duration of employment is April through August, but the time-frame may be changed or extended based on the employee’s availability. Typically seasonal employees work 40 hours per week. Employees must be 18 years of age (17 for mini-golf). Pay starts at $11 per hour.

No education is required. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, interpret and communicate policies to the public, establish and maintain positive working relationships, lift and move up to 50 lbs with or without mechanical assistance (accommodations available).

Event Coordinator Intern

The Grand Haven Community Center in Grand Haven, Michigan is a 54 year old city owned and operated facility. The 10,000 square foot center is a beautiful event space and hosts over 600 events annually. Events include showers, birthday parties, corporate events, performances, non-profit fundraisers, expos, wedding ceremonies and receptions. The City of Grand Haven is a popular venue for outdoor special events that take place in a variety of locations on public land, including city streets, the municipal marina and parks. The city has over 100 special events that are organized throughout the year and include events such as fundraisers, walks, marathons, tournaments, art shows, concerts and festivals.

Internship Duration: May 2020 to September 2020. The Event Coordinator Intern is required to be on-site during events (typically held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) to assist in preparation and oversight, and remain throughout final clean-up of events within the Community Center and in the community for special events.

Opportunities and Experience:
The Event Coordinator Intern will gain valuable experience in venue management and event planning. This hands-on internship experience will provide the intern an understanding of the business side of event planning and execution. At the Community Center, the intern will assist in the oversite of event coordination of clients and vendors. Special event oversite will include coordination with event organizers and adherence to approved plans.

This position requires a high school diploma and enrolled in a college or university, preferably with a major of event planning, hospitality, or other relevant field of study.

Harbor Transit Driver (part-time)

Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority is seeking Part Time Drivers due to increased ridership and customer demand. The successful candidates will accept computer aided dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement. Experience operating vehicles for public transportation is strongly desired. The successful candidates must possess excellent people skills and be able to deliver extraordinary customer service. The ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program is also a condition of hire.
