Public Safety

Public Safety Officer III

The City of Grand Haven Public Safety Department is offering an excellent opportunity for two full time Public Safety Officers. Under the supervision of the Public Safety Sergeant, performs duties of both law enforcement and firefighter. Enforces local and state laws, responds to call for service in the area of arrests, criminal pursuit and investigations. Extinguishes fires in residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies. A BA from an accredited college or university is preferred and the applicant must be licensable through MCOLES. Certification level of Firefighter I and II in accordance with the standards set by the MFFTC and currently licensed as a Michigan First Responder & CPR is preferred. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 165 pounds. Ability to work under pressure, act quickly and obtain accurate information through interview, interrogation and observation. Demonstrated ability to analyze, communicate and interact professionally with other employees, the general public and various professional contacts. The starting salary is $18.407 per hour based on the current union contract working 2184 hours per year.

Retired Senior Volunteer Officer 

The City of Grand Haven Public Safety Department is seeking applicants for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP Officers provide many services for the community including; general patrol, vacation house checks, visiting school playgrounds during recess, issuance of citations for handicap parking and fire lane violations, and reporting and assisting with hazardous conditions such as traffic accidents, stalled vehicles, missing signs, and other public safety concerns. In addition to patrolling the city streets and beaches, RSVP Officers also assist at events such as the Fourth of July, Coast Guard, and Jingle Bell Parade activities. 

 

The successful candidate must be at least 50 years of age. Residency in the City of Grand Haven is not a requirement. All training and uniforms (except footwear) are provided at no cost to the volunteers. Volunteers work two, 4-hour shifts per week and patrol in marked cars provided by the City.

Ski/Snowboard Instructor

Under the general direction of the Ski Bowl Coordinator the ski / snowboard instructor will teach skiing or snowboarding to both children and adults. This is a seasonal, part time position averaging 4 to 15 hours per week, weather dependant.

Ski Bowl Slope & Maintenance Staff

Under the general direction of the Ski Bowl Slope & Maintenance Crew Leader the Slope & Maintenance Staff will be responsible for all aspects of slope maintenance including snow making, tow maintenance, grooming and general maintenance of the ski bowl facility. This is a seasonal, part time position averaging 20 to 30 hours per week, weather dependant.

Ski Bowl Seasonal Employees

The City of Grand Haven is in the process of hiring Ski Bowl seasonal employees. Openings will be available for Hill Supervisors/Ski Patrol, Slope Maintenance, Lodge Attendants, Tow Operators and an Assistant Coordinator. Experienced Skiers and Snow Boarders preferred. Must be committed to work evenings, nights, weekends, school snow days and holidays up to 30 hours per week; weather dependant and be at least 18 years of age.

Under the general direction of the Ski Bowl Coordinator the Lodge Attendant performs a variety of duties necessary for safe, efficient daily operations of the Ski Bowl facility. This is a seasonal, part time position ranging from 10 to 20 hours per week, weather dependant.

Ski Bowl Tow Operator

Under the general direction of the Ski Bowl Coordinator the tow operator will safely operate the tow rope and supervise conduct of the skiers and snow boarders on their assigned hill. This is a seasonal, part time position averaging 10 to 20 hours per week, weather dependant.
